Chanel Edinburgh Runway Multi Color Tweed Coat Gripoix Buttons 2013

$0

The Chanel Pre-Fall Collection, also known as the Chanel Métiers d’Art, is an annual celebration of art and culture. The 2013 show took place on a snowy evening at the ruins of Linlithgow Palace in Edinburgh, Scotland, the perfect backdrop for what Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld described as a “Barbarian Romance.”

French Haute Couture met medieval Scottish fantasy to wide acclaim, with an opulent array of regal gowns, oversized ruffs, tweeds, tartans, argyle tights, and knitwear. Perhaps one of Chanel’s most memorable shows, the collection paid homage to Scottish history and culture as well as the roots of the House, as Coco Chanel’s time in the Highlands inspired the brand’s now iconic knits and tweeds.

As seen as look #24 on the 2013 Métiers d’Art runway, this phenomenal coat retailed for $8200 in 2013, which would be valued at about $11,000 today, illustrating the desirability of this piece. Done in a multicolor Lesage tweed that is reminiscent of a Scottish tartan in shades of red, brown, white, hunter green, mustard yellow, blue, and black, this classic coat offers a masterful juxtaposition of history and fashion.

The elegant, menswear inspired coat begins with a flattering high notch lapel, a V neckline, and long sleeves that reach the wrists. Ornate round Gripoix jewel button closures at the center front placket, back of the wrists, and four front patch pockets add textural dimension and contrast while elevating this coat to a work of art.

A complementary and classic Chanel fringe trim at the cuffs, neckline, and hem pulls the coat together visually while adding a nice textural contrast. Sophisticated and timeless, this Chanel coat is a Fall/Winter must have for the discerning fashion lover and can easily be styled with evening wear or as part of a professional ensemble.

In excellent condition with signs of light wear, this 2013 Métiers d’Art Chanel tweed coat is lined in a tonal cranberry silk that is signed Chanel throughout and features the brand’s iconic camellias and interlocking CC logo.
