Halston Couture Sequin Pearl Beaded Sunset Colors Dress Documented, 1980s
Halston is one of the visionaries of American style. Exhibiting a perfect balance of simplicity and shock-factor, Halston’s design values of ease, function, and aesthetics appealed to the everyday woman as well as his star-studded clientele including the likes of Liza Minelli, Liz Taylor, and Andy Warhol. However, amid various business tensions in the 1980s, Halston’s designed his final Resort 1984 collection.
Presumably from this final collection, it is done in a fine white silk that has been hand embroidered with a plethora of sequins of sunset orange, citrine, and blush in addition to sections of gunmetal beads. Rows of pearls have also been stitched in to add a beautiful vintage element. The meticulous beading and embroidery create a warm, abstract pattern that plays off of the light making this dress a sight to be seen.
The dress begins with a classic round neckline that has been embellished with several rows of pearls. Slightly squared shoulders flow into relaxed set sleeves. Complimenting the curves and organic lines of the beading pattern, this dress slims at the waist and gently conforms to the hips and bust that flatters the figure without being constricting. This dress finishes with a straight skirt and another bead detail at the ankle-length hemline.
Bold yet refined, this dress is an excellent vintage evening wear option. In 2017, a similar dress was showcased at the Halston retrospective show at the Nassau County Museum and can be seen in the featured images in an original campaign spread from Vogue Magazine.
