Basha Gold
Bob Mackie Attributed Black Beaded Sequins Dress, 1980s
For decades sequins have been a go-to option to stand out and therefore have represented the bold, and larger-than-life. From the 1920s flapper to Norell reintroducing the craze in the 1960s to the 1980s where designers made sequins the hallmark of stars such as Cher, this design feature is one that is timelessly fun and exciting. Though unlabeled, this stunning 80s style gown is presumably a Bob Mackie design.
Done in a rich black silk, the dress is covered in glimmering black sequins that create a braided design throughout the dress. A shallow mock neck juts out into a padded power shoulder that creates a beautiful inverted triangle silhouette to the bodice of the dress that blends into a cinched waist that flows into an elegant straight skirt finishing at ankle level.
At the back, a sheer, beaded godet is inset at the hem that adds a slight peekaboo detail to the otherwise heavily decorated dress. This dress boldly states its glamour and is certainly an eye-catching piece worthy of a red-carpet event.
