1993 Yves Saint Laurent Documented Moire Gold Silk Tassel Beads Jacket YSL
East meets West in this opulent Yves Saint Laurent jacket. From the maison’s spring/summer 1993 pret-a-porter collection, it made its debut during a runway finale that had to have been among the highlights of Paris Fashion Week that season. A parade of models took to the catwalk in variations of the highly embellished cropped-top silhouette, each pairing the look with a striking gold lamé wrap skirt, slicked-back hair and gorgeous statement earrings.
This was Yves at his best, embracing his Algerian heritage and adoration of Morocco and adapting it for his sophisticated European clientele. Highly collectible, this special piece is tailored from a luxurious turquoise moiré and then adorned with ornate gold passementerie. The buttons alone are works of art, festooned with richly woven teardrop shapes and full tassels. The hem also stands out with its gold rickrack and faceted gold droplet beads that move with the wearer.
Constructed with padded shoulders and princess seams at the front and back, this jacket fits beautifully, skimming the rib cage to look elegant and crisp. Today this item could just as easily be paired with an evening skirt as it could with high-waisted trousers for the day or night.
