Lanvin Alber Elbaz Turquoise Red Crocodile Effect Woven Chain Bag Spring 2009
Moroccan-born designer Alber Elbaz is remembered as much for his love of people as he is for his astounding talent and creative philosophy. Credited with revitalizing the French fashion house of Lanvin where he served as creative director for fourteen years, he preferred to think of himself as a storyteller, working with “intuition, instinct, and joy.”
The Lanvin Spring 2009 collection exuded a glamorous femininity and featured an array of beautifully draped one shoulder tops and a shift-dresses in silk gazar, duchesse satin, and georgette. A line up of bejeweled heels, crystal-studded sunglasses, opulent necklaces, and leather chain bags brought a celebratory air to the runway, and were also prominently featured in the ad campaign photographed by Steven Meisel.
A version of this woven chain bag was featured on that season’s runway in different colorways and sizes. This particular colorway was custom-made for the Lanvin boutique, making it even more valuable. Done in hand-woven, crocodile-embossed leather strips in shades of navy, turquoise, red, and lavender, this beautiful clutch bag is a fine example of Alber’s work. The flap portion of the bag features a gold-tone hardware frame which is held in place by a large red enamel and gold-tone jewel, which makes the design pop visually.
A special addition to the discerning fashion lover’s wardrobe, this clutch bag is the perfect statement accessory for an evening soiree, wedding, or special occasion. The removable gold-tone chain shoulder strap allows for versatile styling and features a medallion embossed with the Lanvin mother and child logo.
