Basha Gold
Vintage Judith Leiber Red Snake Skin Clutch Bag
Born in the tumultuous time of the World War decades, Hungarian born Judith Leiber achieved astonishing accomplishments for her work in handbag and leather good design. Being the first woman inducted into the Hungarian Handbag Guild, Leiber’s craft focused on one-of-a-kind imagination and deft attention to detail. Of her work, the New York Times refers to her creations as “objects d’art”.
Done in a seductive red snakeskin, this bag is molded to form a supple rounded body. The top of the bag is accented with a textured gold tone frame with two spherical glass insets at the center giving the impression of a crown atop the bag. Nominally a clutch, this bag also contains a gold snake chain that can be unfolded to add a strap.
Leiber’s bags are acclaimed for their quality and high fashion status. Her bags have been worn by various first ladies such as Mamie Eisenhower and Hillary Clinton, and also grace the collections of notable museums worldwide.
