Chanel Black Silk Colorful Bird Print Gold Button Dress, 1980s

$0

Throughout the years Chanel has experimented with several different ways to reinterpret the “Chanel look”. While this typically comes across in the form of the reimagination of staple designs, the house also creates stories that evoke Coco Chanel’s vibrant and adventurous personality through their designs. Featuring exotic colors, prints, and an overall tropical vibe, Lagerfeld in the late-80s paid homage to Chanel’s original service to the sporty and outdoorsy woman.

Presumably from the Spring 1989 collection, this dress mixes the spirit of nature with a professional twist. Made from a black silk, the dress features a rhythmic macaw print with tones of yellow-green, coral, cerise, and azure. The neck is accentuated by a shallow collar that rests atop a ruffle detail.

These ruffles are echoed across the dress at the sleeve cuffs and down the skirt. Vertical pleats extend from the shoulders to the waist creating a flattering, tailored bodice that transitions into a semi-straight calf length skirt. Mixed with the gestural bird print, these design elements work to elongate the wearer giving off a thinning and poised figure.
