Vintage Leonard Paris Floral Print Open Side Silk Jersey Dress, 1970s

$0

Synonymous with luxury and innovation, Léonard Paris is known for their silk jersey dresses and signature orchid prints. Referring to himself as “... a couturier with a sense of marketing,” Daniel Tribouillard was originally inspired to create floral prints to contrast the popular geometric designs of Emilio Pucci. The unique success of what began as an astute business decision became a genuine romance, the prints taking precedence over the style of the garments themselves, almost always incorporating flowers, which, as Tribouillard said himself, “Léonardizes” a design.

From the 1970’s, this dress is done in Leonard’s signature silk jersey. The beautiful material features a print of large orange and magenta orchids surrounded by green leaves on a light blue ground. There is one large orchid on the right side of the bodice, and several more down the right side of the skirt at the front of the dress, making it seem as if the flowers have been strewn over a river or pond.

The back of the dress is a bit livelier with leaves, petals, and full blooms reaching across the blue ground from all sides, giving the eye something new to appreciate at each angle. A complementary pattern of overlapping leaves bordered by magenta stripes at the neckline, sides of the dress, and hem pulls the dress together while adding another layer of depth.

This dress exudes the languorous chic that Leonard is known for, and can be worn as resort wear or a beach cover up. The perfect choice for a luncheon or afternoon in the sun, this dress is a lighthearted and timeless take on spring.

This 1970’s Leonard Paris dress is unlined and closes with two buttons at the neckline and ties at the sides. In excellent condition, this dress has been professionally eco dry cleaned and pressed.
