Courregès Black Silk Polka Dot Sequin Trapeze Mini Dress, 1960s
Andres Courregès is most noted for his Space Age styles during the 1960s. However, Courregès’ designs offer far greater appeal than this moment in history. His designs conceptualize notions of geometric shape, color, and texture. Presumably from the late 1960s, this dress is done in a space-black silk organza and is embellished with reflective polka dot discs in black and gold throughout.
At the neck, a yoke is overlaid in ivory sequins that begin at the high-neck in the front while stopping at the shoulders as the back plunges into a contrasting V-neckline. This mirrors the trapeze silhouette of the entire dress affording it sense of balance and elongation to the wearer.
