Yves Saint Laurent Crystal Sailboat Earrings Rare Collectors YSL, 1988
Self-described as a transcultural person, one of YSL’s greatest talents was his ability to merge many different concepts into a single garment or collection that could inspire curiosity and a desire for worlds beyond. The Spring/Summer 1988 ready-to-wear collection was bursting with upbeat colors with a nautical undertone which perfectly encapsulates this world traveler persona.
As the final touch to one of his runway ensembles, these stunning earrings are crafted in the shape of a sailboat encrusted with crystals by Sabbagh. Set into a silver frame, clear square-cut crystals form the sail leading down to three rows of round colored crystals of onyx, ruby red, and sapphire blue. The gleam and the dynamic shape of these earrings make for a fresh and light-hearted statement piece that will catch the light and have a magnificent movement during wear.
Retailing for over $1500 more than 30 years ago and produced in very limited quantities, these earrings are highly coveted and collectable. The set featured here are an unsigned runway sample adding to their rarity. The earrings can be seen in the featured images from the 1988 YSL campaign.
