Balenciaga Runway Floral Print Gown Look #30, Fall 2016
Currently the creative director for the house of Balenciaga, Georgian born designer Demna Gvasalia has a bricolage aesthetic that tends to blend streetwear with arts and crafts. Combining contemporary trendy elements with a late 70s/80s undertone, Gvasalia’s debut collection in Fall 2016 definitely changed the course for the historic house. From that collection, this gown is constructed from various panels of printed silks and rayon fabrics.
The floral prints with vivid tones of peach, sky blue, oranges, and yellows envelop the wearer in a type of garden as the colors mix through drapes and folds like paints on canvas. A shallow V-neckline and an oversized shape fall into a high-low hem that brings the focus to the back.
On the right-back, the dress is constructed similar to a jacket having a boxier silhouette and even a lapel that camouflages across the neckline. On the left, rhythmic seaming pours into an asymmetric train of faded gold and red-violet roses. This look can be seen as look #30 on that season’s runway.
