Bill Blass Red Silk Sheer Striped Maxi Column Dress Draped Overlay, 1970s
American designer, Bill Blass helped define the relaxed, pared-down elegance that epitomized late 20h century American fashion. After attending Parsons School of Design in New York CIty, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. As American Fashion began to receive international attention, Bill Blass became the head designer of the house of Rentner. Popular among high-society women of New York, he quickly became part of the the fashionable post war scene. Bill Blass created clothes that allowed women a modern sense of ease and comfort.
His sportswear glamorized the concept of the New American casual chic: American fusion - merging simple style with luxurious fabrics as seen in this lipstick red 1970’s elegant maxi evening dress. Conjured from luxurious soft silk charmeuse stripes alternating with transparent silk chiffon this dress is suspended from the shoulders with a kiss of spaghetti strap. In excellent condition, this vintage gem has been professionally cleaned and pressed. An easy elegant dress, as much at home at an intimate dinner party, or an evening soiree this is an exaltation of femininity.
