James Galanos Couture Chiffon Cheetah Print Open Back Halter Dress, 1980s
Although James Galanos’ designs are usually revered for their classic beauty and elegant functionality, Galanos also added a dose of fun and playfulness to his looks. Whether it be a shocking color or an unexpected print, there was certainly a Galanos design for any woman for any occasion.
This 1980s maxi dress is done in a cheetah print silk chiffon in warm tones of mahogany, garnet, and raw sienna. The dress begins with a backless halter-neck bodice that drapes over the bust. With this cut, the exotic print is balanced by the amount of skin shown on the shoulders and back.
The skirt is comprised of a slightly pegged underskirt with a dramatic front split and a handkerchief style over skirt that gives it a full, tiered look.
This dress also comes with a glossy sanguine belt with gold hardware that provides additional shape to the dress while breaking up the bold print. Fun and extremely easy to wear, this dress makes for an excellent day-to-night garment.
