Valentino Yellow Floral Print Draped Black Silk Fishtail Gown Shawl 1970s

$0

Valentino’s designs, according to the designer himself, have always had the purpose of making women feel beautiful. Although having trained in Paris, Valentino nonetheless has maintained that iconic, decadent Italian luxury vibe. By merging nuanced colors and tame prints, Valentino speaks to luxury in a simple and direct voice.

Circa 1979, this Valentino dress is made from a double layered silk chiffon designed with a rose print of blue, goldenrod, and black. The bodice of the dress is heavily ruched accentuating the waist to hip level from which the straight skirt falls. From the back, this classically shaped dress come with a few surprises. From the fitted waist a fishtail attachment is added to provide extra movement and volume. This layer can creatively be lifted up and worn as a cocoon shawl completely redesigning the whole dress. This is a staple Valentino design that was done in several iterations during its original run in the 1970s and aspects of this dress design are evident in the Pre-Fall 2018 collection as well.
