Geoffrey Beene Black Crepe Panne Velvet Dress 1990s

$1,275

Described as the “the architect of American clothing,” famed New York-based designer Geoffrey Beene is known for his modern, sophisticated aesthetic. He received eight prestigious Coty awards and served as an inspiration and teacher to other acclaimed fashion designers including Kay Unger and Alber Elbaz.

From the 90s, this elegant, Avant Garde evening dress embodies the polished aesthetic Beene is known for. Done in black stretch crepe and metallic black velvet, the dress offers a modern take on a timeless classic. The fitted bodice begins with a simple jewel neckline and long sleeves that reach just above the wrists. One sleeve is done in black crepe, while the other is done in glittering black velvet, offering a nice contrast of tone and texture.

An inverted thigh-high pleat at the right front of the skirt reveals a length of beautifully draped black crepe, which serves to bring the dress together visually while adding a subtle, sensual note that emphasizes the lines of the body.
