Issey Miyake S/S 2003 Runway Cream Cotton Canvas Jacket Museum Piece

$2,200

Unlike many Japanese designers during the time Miyake gained momentum, Miyake’s aesthetic is simply more conceptual than it is avant-garde. Typically working with various pleating techniques, Miyake’s designs explore balance and proportion. This crème blazer is done from a simple canvas fabric that alludes to a Japanese workwear aesthetic.

A softly pleated drape snakes across the blazer being couched in place by twill tape. This detail caresses the wearer poetically as the canvas and the hard angles of the peak lapel are dramatically softened.

The fit of the blazer is quite soft with a lightly sloped shoulder and minimal tailoring through the waist. Despite a neutral color palette, this garment is able to speak volumes through the masterful engagement with detail and shadow.
