Chanel Black Silk Ballerina Print Bomber Jacket, 1990s

$0

The Fall/Winter 1992 collection by Chanel featured an eclectic mix of styles. Everything from tailored military style overcoats, an exaggerated riff of hip-hop, and kitschy head pieces that were intended to echo the joy of the 90s. The collection attempted to merge a few international tropes under one collection and explore the crossroads of classic and cheeky style.

From that collection, this iconic ballerina bomber jacket is done in a black silk with depictions of ballerinas dancing across it rendered in the style of Degas. The ballerinas mainly are done in a chalk white but pops of tonal red, blue, and green add a more dynamic feel. The smooth, graceful look of the dancers and the silk is contrasted by the textural stitch detail around each ballerina, and the harder connotation that a bomber silhouette gives. As pictured in the reference photos, available on request , this jacket was showcased on that season’s runway by model Emma Sojberg and in a Chanel advert on Linda Evangelista.
