Basha Gold
Gianni Versace Couture Purple Green Print Jacket, 1990s
The 1990s can be characterized by a collage of bold color shades, so it is no wonder that Versace was remarkably popular during this time. Featuring a combination of rich colors or patterns superimposed with luxe-inspired prints, the Versace aesthetic is very recognizable. From the S/S 1991 collection, this Versace jacket captures the brand and the era.
Done in a majestic mulberry silk-wool blend this structured jacket incorporates a Byzantine-esque print depicting mesmerizing roundels of pastel green, goldenrod, and red-violet outlined in a thin orange. The roundels are connected through a repetition of fuchsia drapery accented in pastel green, copper, and bronze tones.
Between the main fabric and the print, a modified color harmony provides division but continuity through the jacket. The crisp round neckline mimics the circular motifs of the print while the broad shoulders and boxy silhouette replicate the rows of the drapery motif, emphasizing the attention to design and color of this jacket.
