Basha Gold
Unlabeled Givenchy Haute Couture Copper Floral Silk Evening Coat
Of all the textile designers of the twentieth century, few had as impressive a roster of clients as Gustav Zumsteg for Abraham of Switzerland. Cristobal Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent all turned to him for his luxurious fabrics that would make their creations come to life. While the designer of this haute couture evening coat is unknown, it is likely he or she also sourced from Abraham of Switzerland.
The silk faille from which it is impeccably handcrafted is magnificent, with a shimmering copper background out of which swirl delicious blooms of orange, magenta, purple and yellow. The roomy silhouette with its Watteau pleat at the back, open collar and leg-o’-mutton sleeves enhances the beauty of the gorgeous pattern. This is a collector’s treasure. Although the designer label has fallen out of the coat, it is still numbered and boasts all the fine details you would expect of a museum-worthy piece.
