Yves Saint Laurent Psychedelic Paisley Silk Kimono Jacket YSL, 1967

$1,200
In retrospect, Yves Saint Laurent defined the fashion movement of the 60s and 70s. YSL embodied a design vision of mixing-and-matching different cultural elements, especially those from the Orient, tweaked for the modern customer. In his execution of these multicultural design features, YSL’s success emulated from his ability to mix this seemingly exotic elements with the modern trends the western market was familiar with.

From circa 1974, this YSL cropped kimono-inspired jacket is done in a vibrant paisley silk of fuchsia, yellow, viridian and Paris green. A narrow shoulder flows into as wide set sleeve that is cuffed on the ends. The kimono has a somewhat low neckline that forms a surplice which mimics the wrap-dress style Diane Von Furstenberg introduced around the same time.

Ending at thigh level, the inspiration and colorful vivacity of this kimono is an outstanding option to add some flair to an easy tank and jeans look or to layer in to a more professional look for a pop of fun.
