Balenciaga Nicolas Ghesquière Floral Silk One Shoulder Top Spring 2008

Creative director and designer Nicolas Ghesquière reported to Vogue that his Spring 2008 Balenciaga collection was “exploring new territory” which he achieved by introducing vivid colors and using non-traditional fabrics to create his designs. The collection paid homage to the house’s roots by recreating silhouettes and sculptural elements introduced by Balenciaga himself, albeit with a youthful, edgy flair.

Done in a gorgeous draped silk jersey, this one shoulder bustier top features a bright floral print done in shades of magenta, light pink, orange, emerald, and dark green. This iconic print was featured in fashion campaigns and was seen on the 2008 Spring runway, and evokes a lush, jewel-toned vision of spring.

The draped, one shoulder neckline flows seamlessly into a knotted twist at the center of the bust. An intersecting length of silk jersey that is gathered across and ruched along the left side of the bodice makes up the other half of the twist, making it seem as if the fabric is being pulled upward.
