Courrèges Black Metallic Polka Dot Layered Maxi Dress, 1970s
André Courrèges was a visionary of youthful and innovative designs. While known for his quirky space-age fashions, his later work offered a blend between unconventional fabrics and classic design features.
This 1973 maxi dress features a silky black bodice with a relaxed fit. The sleeves and tiered skirt are done in a lightly textured chiffon with clack metallic polka dots. The various layers of the skirt create a scaled design that finishes in a striking asymmetrical hem.
Strips of silver vinyl accent the collar, waist, and hems of the skirt flounces. On the back, a dramatic keyhole that compliments the opacity and translucency of the other two fabrics. Blending together multiple textures and aesthetics, this dress is both mod and demure that makes for a fun vintage option to add to almost any wardrobe.
