Lanvin Alber Elbaz Black Sun Hat Navy Ribbon Band, 2006
After serving as creative director for several other prominent fashion houses such as Guy Laroche, Alber Elbaz led the House of Lanvin from 2001-2015, a decade and a half in which many would note was Lanvin’s most successful epoch. Elbaz is revered by many in the industry not only as a designer, but also for his commitment and passion for the brands for which he designs. Elbaz’ design style features sharp hues or color, often juxtaposed to black, or white, in balanced forms that allow the textile to speak.
This black, 2006 Lanvin Ete sun hat is indicative of Elbaz’ simple contrast technique. The domed crown of the hat is accented with a wide navy grosgrain hatband that ties at the back, and trails off the back conjuring a quiet drama. The wide brim is flexible, and can easily be worn down, or slightly turned up transforming from a relaxed, to a more social feel. With this versatility, it is like having several different hats in one.
