London Series Poster 1st Edition "Eye" Paper Dress by Harry Gordon, 1968
In the wake of pop-art during the 1960s, items such as “paper” dresses became all the rage. With a mod silhouette, and creative designs printed on, the wearer was instantly transformed into a walking piece of art. From the extremely rare, 1st edition line of Poster Dress in London, this Eye dress is created by Harry Gordon.
In a sepia tone, the dress is a simplistic pinafore with the striking photograph of an eye front and center. As seen in the advertisement above, this run of dresses came with a few different artworks, many of which are retained in the permanent collections of museums such as the MET, the Kyoto Costume Institute, and the Victoria and Albert. This is an incredibly rare garment in fashion culture, and has only been opened in order to photograph.
