1990s Tuleh Brocade Floral Print Metallic Filigree Genuine Fox Fur Trim Coat

$0

Dare to be feminine in this chic little coat by New York based Tuleh. Launched by Josh Patner and Bryan Bradley, their clothes “release the pink” in women. This beautifully detailed coat is made from a silk/wool blend brocade weave with an coppery-gold filigree overprint. Violets, reds and a touch of metallic thread add a spark of floral delight. The style of the coat harks back to the controlled silhouettes of the 1960s, complete with design details that are now utterly rare.

The top button hole is cleverly integrated into seaming at upper bodice, with bound button holes finishing out the center front closure. A tightly notched collar breaks in beautiful proportion to the garment and a sculptural double vent at back provides both function and visual dimension, confirming the thoughtfulness that went into this design. Slit pockets are sneaked into the side seams. Of course, the fox fur cuffs are the coup de grâce, adding textural variety that is both elegant and eclectic.

The silk blend lining is strikingly coordinated with the striated colors of the gray fox cuffs. This coat is an example of Tuleh’s early work, and echoes their assertion that ''Modern is not antiseptic.”

In a May 1999 New York Times article Patner asks, “Why do designers think modern women have to look like pod people? Tuleh is a vehement reaction against techno sport fabrics that look like heat repellent. We believe in violet, aqua and red. No stone, pumice, earth and sky-malt colors. Modern is a pretty dress.''

This turn of the 21st century coat by New York based fashion design firm Tuleh is in excellent condition. Constructed from a luxurious brocade with floral overprint, the coat has finely tailored details. Bound buttonholes form the center front closure and princess seaming keeps the overall silhouette slim. A double back vent adds functionality and dimension, providing the slightest flair to the overall silhouette.

Slit pockets are integrated into side seams. Dyed fox fur sleeve cuffs, which are a variegated gray, provides keen balance to the warm colors of the brocade. Completely lined in a fine silk blend.
