1970s Mollie Parnis Lurex and Sequin Gold Tunic Maxi Skirt Shawl Set Documented

$0

Crack open a 1970s - era Vogue or Harper’s and you’ll surely see a fashion spread featuring garments by American designer Mollie Parnis. A pantsuit version of this ensemble appears in the March 1974 issue of Vogue, where the metallic heels and bouncy hair give you a real sense of its presence. Known for clever updates of classic silhouettes, this disco magic ensemble marries comfort with glam.

The knit base incorporates Lurex®, a yarn which has a glittery metallic layer fused into it. All ensemble elements are covered with hundreds of sequins that give a satisfying drape to the material, and an overall shimmer to the design. A great dress for a slim fit or ample curves, the sequins catch the light as they follow the body.

The hip-length tunic features a close neckline and center back zipper, leaving the front unencumbered by seams. Long sleeves gently transition to a trumpet-shaped cuff. The full-length skirt has an easy elastic waist band, and a triangular shawl can be worn loosely over the shoulders or any way you please.

The hip-length tunic has a close neckline and non-separating center back metal and nylon zipper.

Long set-in sleeves echo the slight flair of the tunic by opening up in a tulip shape at the cuff. The lightweight fabric, which drapes beautifully over the body, is unlined. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself.
