Dries Van Noten Sheer Silk Printed Pleated Skirt, Runway 2008
A remarkable talent of 21st century design, Dries Van Noten quickly captivated the world of fashion with his equally wearable and conceptual garments. Opening his Paris boutique in 2007 and then recognized by CFDA in 2008, Van Noten’s Fall 2008 collection stands as a monument to the designer’s growing acclaim. Implementing his signature abstract florals and unique color stories, the collection gave a psychedelic ethnic mood that is encompassed in this pleated, sheer, silk skirt.
Sitting promptly at the waist with an austere black waist band, the delicate skirt is a sensory explosion of colors featuring tones of yellow ochre, mauve, red, and blue-green. The print rhythmically moves with the pleats slightly accentuating the hips as it moves into the dynamic, calf-length handkerchief hem.
A vintage aura adds a particular charm to the seemingly futuristic print. Lightweight and made for movement, this exquisite skirt works beautifully to elongate the body and can easily elevate a simple blouse or bodysuit to an elegant outfit. It can be seen as look #9 from that season’s runway, and is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art archives.
