Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons Sculptural Black Avant Garde Skirt
Protégé of the notorious avant-gardist Rei Kawakubo of Comme de Garçon, Junya Watanabe is a masterful designer in his own right. Like many in the Japanese avant-garde tradition, Watanabe evokes a sense of calculated structure, geometry and volume in his looks and can be considered nothing less than a sculptor in cloth. Featured in his Fall 2015 collection this incredible skirt is made from a galaxy of black satin with a sheen.
From a low-fitting waist the skirt has been precisely layered, pleated and folded to create a dynamic gravity-defying effect. With the irregular folds the skirt in its abstraction resembles the delicate petals of a rose. A show-stopping wardrobe addition this skirt is an excellent option for an evening or upscale cocktail event. It can be seen in the images above on that season’s runway.
