Hermès Bonwit Teller Vintage Burgundy Travel Birkin Bag, 1970s
Before opening their own boutique renowned Paris luxury brand, Hermès sold their items through the New York department store, Bonwit Teller. Following Hermès’ store opening, Bonwit Teller ceased to carry the Hermès products. Circa the 1960s/1970s, this Hermès Birkin is from this early period in the brand’s history making it a rare, vintage collector’s item.
Done in a rich, ruddy-brown leather, the bag is made in a travel bag style with leatherwork detailing at the top near the handle. On the gold hardware it is stamped Hermès Paris and in gold foil on the bag it is stamped with Bowit Teller’s name as well.
