1970s Yves Saint Laurent Pink Confetti Print Silk Bow Tie Blouse YSL
When it became popular in the Thirties, the flouncy lady’s necktie was nicknamed the pussy bow for its resemblance to those used to adorn kittens. By the Seventies, the embellishment had been incorporated into the “secretary blouse” and became the working woman’s answer to the man’s shirt and cravat. Yves Saint Laurent’s take on the style, however, begs to be worn out of the boardroom.
The designer, who was as much a regular at Studio 54 as he was at his atelier in Paris, fashioned it in a head-turning fuchsia silk. A print of navy, turquoise, orange and yellow dots makes it appear as if its wearer has just twirled within a celebratory burst of confetti. Puffed sleeves complete the look that also includes a straight-cut silhouette, hidden button-front placket and topstitched seams.
