Balenciaga Floral print Fringe trim Knee length Skirt Runway, 2018

As stated by creative director Demna Gvasalia, the Spring 2018 collection was a literal departure from classic Balenciaga. A hodgepodge of patterns, colors and textures, the 2018 line showcased a twist on the traditional masterful silhouettes and intricate detail work.

From that collection, this pieced, asymmetric floral skirt exudes naturalism. On an indigo ground a motif of Parisian green leaves and yellow-orange, mauve and scarlet ribbons snake across the skirt. Stylized flowers in mauve and yellow-orange dot across the fabric. Diagonal seaming across the skirt adds a linear undertone to this skirt shaping the print in a dynamic manner.

The wrap design of the skirt is accented by a linen-colored tassel fringe that decorates a dramatically curved surplice from the right centre back hem around to the left back hem. This detail compliments the earthy aesthetic to the skirt fabric. Falling at the knee, the left side of the skirt is a few inches lower than the right. A creative mix of texture, this skirt offers a trendy eco style that has a modern yet vintage look. It can be seen as look #49 from that season’s runway.
