Basha Gold
Comme des Garcons Gold Tulle Skirt, 2000s
Like many prominent designers before her, Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons has a penchant for making sculptural wearable art with an emphasis on volume. This aesthetic choice greatly influences her fabrication choices making tulle one of her go-to textiles especially in the 90s and early 2000s.
Made from layered metallic gold tulle, this skirt evokes an old-world ballerina feel. The skirt is gathered from the waist down to the hips where ribbon bands of red and gold and one of cerise and black provide separation to the garment. Below these bands, the tulle gently expands to a fuller bell shape ending at calf level with the sheer tulle glittering in the light.
This whimsical skirt is both delicate and eye-catching. It is a light option that can be layered, complete a two-piece event ensemble, or simply worn casually to add a bit of sparkle to your outfit.
