Emanuel Ungaro Peter Dundas Feather High Neck Gown, Runway F/W 2006
One of the most notable French designers of the 1960s alongside the likes of Cardin and Courregès, Emanuel Ungaro stood out with his loud color combinations and eccentric prints. While his designs are often lively, they take after a school of minimalist thought and tend to be practical, functional, and excellently crafted. Creative director Peter Dundas brought a Parisian rock-glam chic aesthetic to the Ungaro 2006 Fall/Winter runway that paid homage to the house’s roots with a vibrant modern edge. This is one of the only collections Dundas designed for Ungaro, making it a unique moment in the house’s history.
From that collection, this beautifully draped silk gown features a stained-glass print in pastel shades of yellow, blue, magenta, and turquoise on a black ground. The sleeveless bodice begins with a ruffled, elasticized high neck that is adorned with a gorgeous collar of black feathers that radiates outward over the shoulders. The feathers elevate the dress to the realm of the otherworldly, adding a layer of texture and depth to this glam rock goddess masterpiece.
