Basha Gold
Prada Sleeveless Silk Mohair Parrot Applique Dress Runway, 2005
Inspired by so-called “birds of vanity”, the 2005 Prada collection boasted vibrant hues and natural textures mixed with modern, linear details. The designs from this collection combine cubist and primitivist aesthetics creating an exceptional visual marriage as featured in this sleeveless, A-line dress. Made from a dyed ocean blue and tan silk, the bodice is done in a traditional silhouette with a shallow scoop neckline.
The soft A-line skirt is done in a complementary tan mohair blend and features goldenrod and scarlet piece details that add a warmth to the design. Perched at the waist on the left front, a parrot is created from an appliqué collage of umber, coral, violet, and lush green silk pieces. The slightly frayed edges of the appliqués echo the purl edge details on the armhole and neck edge. A classically fitting dress, dress is an excellent office or cocktail look that adds an exotic twist to a modest style. A variation of this dress can be seen as look #7 from that season’s runway.
