Texan born Tom Ford is not easily defined. Dashing in every way, Ford was not only Creative Director for Yves Saint Laurent, but Gucci as well. In 2009 he made his highly acclaimed directorial debut with the film A Single Man, starring Colin Firth and Julianne Moore. Designing for both women and men, Ford has dressed notables from Michele Obama to Daniel Craig. This ruched top, designed in 2002 for Yves Saint Laurent, reflects his zeal for drama and fashion.
Heavily feminine, the dense texture is made soft and pliable by the fine silk tulle from which it was constructed. The handset hidden side zipper provides a close fit, heightening the visual effect of the ruching. The complexity of the construction is expertly handled, with and an interior that has been lined in a silk georgette to provide comfort and stabilize the ruching.
The blouse’s semi-transparency compels a noble designer to finish all seams completely. Ford backs them with red silk velvet ribbon, which is visible at the front of the gentle v-neckline. The blouse’s high quality of materials and skillful level of finish contributed to the original retail cost of $2195 (some 15 years ago). This vintage blouse from 2002 was made by Tom Ford for Yves Saint Laurent, and is in excellent condition. The complex ruching, made from a soft silk tulle, is revealing and feminine. Set in long sleeves are constructed with a smooth inset at the back side to reduce catching and snagging.
With some variance relative to body type, the v-neckline hits right above the bust line. A flat panel of tulle and georgette is inset at center back, surrounded by ruching. Hidden side zipper and fully lined in silk georgette. Professionally cleaned and pressed. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year.
