In the earlier years, YSL pushed the envelope. His designs pushed boundaries, were often controversial but represented a revolution in the womenswear aesthetic whether that be edgy, quirky, or sexy. Representing all of these fashionable risks, this maxi dress has a bold plunging Y-neckline and an exposed side bodice. It is done in a black silk printed with a rainbow confetti motif, a pattern the house referenced decades later in their 2018 collection.

The bodice is fitted with gathers that come from both the waist and the shoulders allowing for ample coverage at the bust. On the back, the bodice transitions into an equally bold wide V-line beautifully framing the exposed back. From a slightly high-waist, the skirt is gathered into a waistband and has a subtle trumpet silhouette. The skirt of this dress is lined and closes at the side with a concealed metal zip and a hook and eye. In excellent condition with one tiny pull the size of a pin head on the back of the waistband.
