Yves Saint Laurent Pink Red Orange Color Block Silk Tunic Top YSL, 1990s
The 1990s marked an era for YSL that was inspired by the East. Saint Laurent reimagined textiles, square silhouettes, and Asian-inspired accessories to create several lines of high-end, luxury garments that blended Western tastes with Eastern aesthetics.
Presumably from his Spring/Summer 1993 collection, this tunic is made from silk shantung of cerise, fuchsia, and mandarin that create a bright and warm color combination. The luster of the satin creates a regal aura about this otherwise simple design.
From a rounded neckline, a slit comes down from the centre front ending just below the bust. A gold braided frog closure with a cube carmine button secures this portion of the top. With dropped sleeves and a boxy silhouette, this tunic has a relaxed fit. This tunic blends the best of simplistic design with an eye-catching pop making it a great way to add a new spin on a staple skirt or pair of trousers.
