Yves Saint Laurent Red Multicolored Plaid Full Maxi Skirt YSL, 1970s
Plaids were popularized in Saint Laurent’s collections from the late 1960s to the early 70s. Appearing most frequently in skirts, the colorful plaids for Rive Gauche reimagined traditional tartan motifs into playful palettes and patterns. Cut on the bias, this 1970s gaberdine maxi skirt features a simple lattice plaid of red, orange, green and blue on a black ground.
Just below the skirts waistband a series of pleats fit the skirt while defining the multicolored plaid design. It falls to ankle level rippling to a heavily flounced hemline. The saturated hues contrast each other boldly making this maxi skirt perfect for a solid top of any color which will surely make for an easy and intriguing ensemble.
