Yves Saint Laurent YSL Black Chiffon Metallic Falling Leaves Ensemble, 1978

$0

International influences were at the forefront of YSL fashions during the 1970s and 80s. During these decades Saint Laurent’s designs were particularly characterizes by a certain ease and a bold spectacle. Drawing attributes from Japanese kimono, this 1978 YSL ensemble is made from a gorgeous black silk chiffon with leaves cascading down the garment done in gold and purple metallic embroidery. This ensemble commands drama through the bold contrast of color and the volume created by the layers.

The top features full sleeves and ties at the neck with an exaggerated black satin ribbon that extends almost to the sweeping hem. Similar to a wrap skirt, the skirt sits promptly at the waist and flows to ankle length with a straight silhouette. Due to the design, a slit the length of the skirt is present to one side creating additional visual movement across the look. Worn separately or together, this stellar combination is a light, easy wardrobe addition especially for special occasions. A variation of this ensemble is pictured in the YSL ad to the left.
