Yves Saint Laurent YSL Multicolor Floral Print Top and Skirt Set, 1980s
There is usually an ode to art in Yves Saint Laurent’s fashion. Whether through style lines, prints, or colors, Saint Laurent consistently has been shown to design with respect for the past, present and future. Though a 1980s design, Saint Laurent recaptures a 60s/70s feel and reprises it to a fresh ensemble. Done in a vivid silk print, this skirt and blouse features a floral motif with colors of teal, Kelly green, wisteria and yellow orange on a vermillion ground.
The blouse slips over the head and is tied to the left shoulder. The yoked skirt is slopes down to the left side and is tied in place as flounces flutter from this point into the sweep of the skirt. When worn together the tropical colors and diagonals of the garments’ cut create a feel of motion. Naturally, these can be worn separately adding a new life to a casual look. A similar design is pictured above on model Mounia circa 1982.
