Basha Gold
Yves Saint Laurent YSL Red Green Multicolored Striped Blouse / Skirt Set, 1990s
Stripes were all the rage in YSL’s Rive Gauche collections in the 80s and 90s. The simplicity in the patterning speaks to the YSL label, however the often mixture of bold or dizzying color combinations made these designs anything but boring. Being able to interpret diverse cultures into his own aesthetic, this 1990s ensemble perhaps references the bold colors associated with the rising 90s hip-hop fashion movement.
Done in sharp stripes of navy, green, gold, and red, this this YSL ensemble can be seamlessly worn as a dress-like look or as separates. The vertical lines, colors, and semi-sheer batiste fabric create an interesting illusion when worn. Having an overall voluminous fit, the Y-neckline creates a casual jersey mood that contrast the half bishop sleeves. The skirt sits promptly at the waist and is pleated all around at the waistband. Falling just below knee level the alternating stripes trade places with each jostle of the skirt. There is a bold retro feel to this ensemble that screams nostalgia and a good time!

The blouse closes at the front with large red plastic buttons that add a degree of playfulness to the overall design; the skirt fastened with a hidden zip and two buttons at centre back.
